Rumi serves up Middle Eastern fare in a relaxed casual environment

The style of cuisine at Rumi Restaurant can be described as authentic traditional casual Middle Eastern food with a contemporary twist. The Middle Eastern Restaurant menu is designed around sharing, as is the tradition in many Middle Eastern households and is good for groups and is kid friendly. On offer is a variety of vibrant dishes to satisfy all the meat and seafood lovers as well as catering for vegetarians and vegans and with great dessert and great tea and coffee. Rumi is also an ideal place for a weeknight meal, or after work drinks and snacking and is cited as the Best Lebanese Restaurant situated on Lygon Street.

Inspiration for the Brunswick Restaurant menu is drawn from Rumi’s Owner and Chef, Joseph Abboud’s Lebanese heritage. This makes it a great dinner location. Start with dishes such as the Almond Taratoor, a creamed almond dip with tahini, garlic and lemon, or perhaps a serve of the Sigara Boregi which are cheese cigars of filo pastry filled with haloumi, feta, and kasseri cheese. Medium size dishes include the Persian meatballs cooked in a tomato & saffron sauce with labne is a more substantial starter for those that are hungry. Larger plates come in the form of charcoal roasted Quail ‘Joojeh’ kebabs with fresh grapes, grape molasses and verjus, or the caramelised Caramelised eggplant ‘M’nazleh’ braised with tomatoes & green peppers. Side dishes range from a freekeh salad to a Persian rice pilaf which goes well with the Advieh marinated lamb shoulder. Don’t forget to order a great dessert and finish with great tea and coffee.

There is something about a shared meal that completes a dining experience and is good for groups at a Middle Eastern Restaurant. The passing of dishes between family members or friends, telling each other how delicious something tastes and asking if the person has tried it yet. It’s a bond forming experience over food and it’s this experience of a family style meal that is exactly what we at Rumi Restaurant try to replicate for our customers. This is why we are often said to be the Best Middle Eastern Restaurant in Melbourne.
